In Galician folklore Bats have traditionally been associated with darkness, the underworld, and witchcraft.

In Barreiros, Co. Mariña Oriental, there is the only henge found outside Great Britain. Known as "the Galician stonehenge", the 50 metre-wide stone circle at A Roda de Barreiros is a magical place that has seen many bats over the henge's 3700 years of history.
