» High quality reproduction of the 1708 map "Le Royaume de Galice" (The Kingdom of Galicia), made for King Louis XIV of France by cartographer Nicolas de Fer.
Geographer and engraver to the King of France, De Fer was one of the most important French cartographers of the 17th and 18th centuries.
When De Fer engraved this map in 1708, France was Europe's superpower and controlled most of the Continent. Spain was also under French control as France had gained the Spanish crown and put Louis XIV's grandson as king of Spain. When De Fer engraved this map for His Majesty Louis XIV, the Sun King considered the Kingdom of Galicia to be another of the possessions of his House of Bourbon.
