» Santiago Cathedral's Portico da Gloria, commissioned by King Ferdinand II of Galicia and completed in 1188, is the crowning glory of Romanesque sculpture. Designed as a porchway with three arches, the sculpture is intended to serve as an iconographic representation of various symbols derived from the Book of Revelation and books of the Old Testament.
